Undiscovered Tourist Spot in the Philippines: Commonwealth, Quezon City

Commonwealth Avenue is referred to as the “Killer Highway” and the widest road in the country. Are you wondering why it is called “Killer Highway”? Road accidents frequently happen here. Many pedestrians are too courageous crossing the highway because they are tired to climb up the overpass. Despite being an undiscovered tourist spot, Commonwealth Avenue is a major road that begins from the Quezon Memorial Circle and ends at Quirino Highway in the area of Novaliches. One passes through Philcoa, Central, Luzon, Tandang Sora, Don Antonio Heights, Batasan Hills, Litex, and the Neopolitan Area in Fairview.

Huge commercial buildings, wet and dry markets, hospitals, churches, schools and other establishments can be found in Commonwealth Avenue. In addition to Don Antonio Heights, there are other prominent subdivisions like Don Enrique Heights, Parian, Don Jose, Doña Carmen, and a lot more. The highway is also the passageway to renowned institutions like the University of the Philippines, New Era University, and Diliman Preparatory School. Public demonstrations are also being held here since there is the “Sandiganbayan”.

There also shopping centers and supermarkets such as Ever Gotesco, Shopwise, the newly established Pearl Drive, Puregold and convenience stores. Iglesia ni Cristo in Central and St. Peter’s Parish around Barangay Batasan Hills are not only places for worship, but also used as landmarks. It’s not difficult to find one’s destination due to these structures. It might also good to mention the jeepney and bus drivers who yell at their passengers in every stop. It’s such a busy highway, but it is definitely a road for busy people.
